Words from the Coaches
Andrea was recently given the opportunity to travel to Richmond, BC as a delegate in the 2009 Speed Skating Canada Coaching Symposium. This is what she had to say:
As you guys are now aware, I recently had the opportunity to travel to Richmond (home of the Olympic Oval for the 2010 Olympic Games) as a delegate in the 2009 Speed Skating Canada Coaching Symposium. The symposium was three filled days of workshops, presentations and special guests. Some of the focal workshops were based on incorporating athletes with intellectual disabilities into our daily practices, the biomechanics of the sport, developing club culture, implementing off ice warm-ups, etc. The symposium went into detail regarding then new and exciting information of the LTAD (Long Term Athlete Development) program and what changes you as athletes and parents can expect over the next few years. There are a lot of new things but trust me they are exciting! There will be more information to come as it becomes available. I am also extremely excited about the new program being introduced to our club this season. I am proud to announce to our club that we are officially a member of True Sport. “Its goal is to help sport live up to its full potential – making a significant contribution to the development of youth, the well-being of individuals, and the quality of life in our communities.” By working together with True Sport we can give athletes the tools they need not only in sport but more importantly in life. I am honored to have had this experience this past weekend to how see how other clubs are functioning and to have the chance to pick up some new tricks to bring to you guys in the fall.
